Adam Smith reversed

Adam Smith is often referred to as the father of modern economics. In Business schools all over the planet you learn the story of the invisible hand. It's the best for all of us, if everyone does only what is in his own interest. The market will do the rest and will allocate the resources in the best way. In other words: Do what's best for you and it will be good for everyone! You could also say: Be an asshole and earth will be a better place!
What if this observation was wrong? Couldn't it be, that Adam Smith's writings had a normative aspect? How would the world look like, if people would learn the following words in business schools?

"It is from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner. They work without regarding their own interest. We adress them and their humanity, not their selflove or ourselves, and always talk to them of our own necessities and not of their advantages."

What if we would read of the "visible hand", which means that it's in our hand to change the world and we should care for each other? That we as human beings are responsible for our actions, that we have to explain ourselfs to all the others? That what's good for society is also good for us?

What do you think?
